Hello,I am IT Admin for a startup that is fully remote. How do you manage repairs for remote staff? Networking.Hello, I am IT director for a medium sized company (100 PC) based in Canada and starting 2 years ago like many corporations, we gone from a 100% local business to 75% remote employee working from home from anywhere in Canada and even worldwide (I have emp. Remotely lockdown/wipe corporate computer when employee terminates? Security. At our smaller, more expendable sites, that need was not quite so severe, so if a network device fails, we can usually replace it in an hour or so. All of our mission-critical connections employ fault-tolerant paths such that we can lose an entire switch, and still be ok. Our datacenter cabinets employ a stacked switch solution complete with redundant power supplies. They may not be identical replacements, but they do the job at equal or slightly lesser speed. In all seriousness though, yes we have spare functioning devices around. What you all are saying is really inconsistent with how we treat servers and PC's where we replace them every 5 years - What makes Switches and routers so different?Well thanks to my recent discovery, I have a few hubs lying around in case disaster strikes. Seeing how It can be a few days to obtain / replace / configure a new switch or router - do you keep one on the shelf for such an occasion? So I guess my next question is - What is your recovery plan if you lose a switch or router? Since one of these can bring down part or all of your network, it would seem that you should have a plan for such an event.
